Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Be a U.S. citizen or resident alien.

  • Pass a fingerprint-based background check (coordinated separately with DOL).
  • No disqualifying criminal convictions.

The Washington DOL Unarmed Security Certification is an 8-hour course that can be completed in a single day. Yes. The unarmed security certification is available in a virtual online format upon request for individuals or groups unable to attend in-person sessions. What happens after I complete the course?
After successfully completing the 8-hour course and examination, we provide certification attestation documentation that meets Washington State Department of Licensing requirements. You can then submit this attestation with your unarmed private security guard license application to DOL along with your fingerprint background check results.
Do I need a job offer before taking this course?
Yes. You must be employed by or have a conditional job offer from a licensed private security company in Washington State before taking this course. The training is designed as pre-assignment training required by DOL before beginning security work.
How long does certification attestation processing take?
Standard certification attestation is provided upon successful course completion. If you require expedited processing for immediate employment needs within 7 days, a $100 rush processing fee applies for priority class placement and accelerated administrative review.
What are the age requirements?
